Question: Is it dangerous to be circumcised as an adult?
Adult circumcision is usually performed in response to very rare medical conditions, such as having too narrow a foreskin, or having recurrent infections or inflammations of the foreskin. Some men choose circumcision for social, religious or personal reasons.
Like any surgery, adult circumcision can lead to complications. Bleeding and infection are the most common problems; unfortunately, accurate statistics on the rate at which these problems occur in circumcision patients isn’t available. Other possible complications include the formation of a tumor containing stagnant blood, swelling, pain and side effects of receiving anesthetic drugs.
Sensations during sex change after the operation, sometimes in ways that the patient finds unpleasant or hard to adjust to. The foreskin is rich in nerve endings, so for some men sexual pleasure is lessened with its loss. Some men also find it extremely difficult to adjust to the sensation of being “uncovered” after the loss of the foreskin.
